You are here: Home / Matcha Mornings / Pelvic Health & Pelvic Girdle Pain with Shannon Crow

April 13, 2021 //  by WanderBarn

This week on the podcast I am joined by Shannon Crow. Shannon is a yoga teacher, the host of The Connected Yoga Teacher podcast, and the founder of Pelvic Health Professionals. Shannon is passionate about pelvic health and how important this is for any individual with a pelvis.

In this episode, Shannon shares her own journey with pelvic health, and how her healing led to her specializing in helping other individuals with their pelvic health. We dive into why pelvic health is important, how to take care of your pelvis, as well as how to heal from pelvic girdle pain.

Enjoy!

Discussed in this episode:

  • Why pelvic health is something that can’t be overlooked or brushed aside
  • What is pelvic girdle pain and why is it often mistaken for hip pain?
  • The mental and spiritual side that contributes to pelvic pain
  • Why going and seeing a pelvic health physical therapist is important if you’re experiencing pain
  • What can you add to your movement practice to support your pelvic health:
    • Breathing out (exhaling) while your making a lifting effort
    • Focusing on creating additional space between the sitz bones to counter tension
    • Using an s breathe while you sit down (exhaling and making an ‘s’ sound
  • Shannon’s rolling over sequence for pelvic health
  • Understanding Mula Bandha and Kegel: some people have challenges with pelvic health because they’re holding too much tension and the common activities we’re recommended (like Kegel’s) could be making it worse
  • Why pelvic health is also important to consider for men and not only a concern for women
  • And much more… Here’s the episode!
