October 13, 2020 //  by WanderBarn

Listen to “Yoga for Eating Disorders with Jennifer Kreatsoulas” on Spreaker.

This week on the podcast I am joined by Jennifer Kreatsoulas. Jennifer is a certified yoga therapist specializing in eating disorders and body image. She is the founder of Yoga for Eating Disorders, creator and host of Real Body Talk, author of Body Mindful Yoga, an international speaker, and mental health advocate. Jennifer provides yoga therapy via online and in-person and leads yoga therapy groups at Monte Nido Eating Disorder Center of Philadelphia. She also teaches workshops, retreats, and specialized yoga and eating disorder recovery trainings for professionals.

On this episode of the podcast, we are talking about Jennifer’s journey with health and wellness and how her own eating disorder and eating disorder recovery sent her down the path of discovering yoga and its healing benefits. She shares how yoga can help heal eating disorders, a bit about the work she does, and much more.

Enjoy!

Discussed in this episode:

  • How Jennifer found yoga as a means to support recovery from an eating disorder
  • Why yoga was helpful and how it evolved into a core part of Jennifer’s lifestyle
  • Yoga as a way to help connect with your body
  • What makes yoga therapy distinct from a normal yoga class and what makes it an especially valuable tool for recovery
  • Why some fitness-focused yoga can keep body image issues alive in ways that yoga therapy doesn’t
  • Looking for Trauma-Informed Yoga classes if you are trying yoga as a support for recovery
  • How mirrors and calorie burning focused exercise can lead us away from healing
  • Why awareness is the critical first step towards creating change
  • Our breath is the connection between our mind and our body, so connecting with the breath is an important part of healing
  • What are you feeding your senses? Is the music, media, conversation, etc. in your life reinforcing negativity or positivity?
  • Understanding our health from a holistic perspective instead of solely physical
  • And much more… Listen here!
