Jennifer is a leadership coach and the host of People, Talking People.
Hello, I’m Jennifer Maynard and one of the hosts of People, Talking People. When I am not recording or thinking about the podcast I’m a leadership coach. Daily I work to upgrade leaders through personalized strength-based coaching.
In my 20-year career history, I’ve taken many twists and turns. Although I’m a planner I also believe in pivoting when life gives you a sign. My life took a huge pivot when I had my one and only child, daughter Grace. After a bad return to work experience, my family decided to take a vacation. We packed our bags and headed to Costa Rica. Six months later, we decided to move to Costa Rica for a year, and I left my 10 year Boeing career behind. We lived the adventure of a lifetime and spent the year exploring, relaxing, surfing, cooking, eating tropical fruit, playing, and growing together. Upon our return from Costa Rica, we continued to explore, traveling the states and spending two months in Nice, France.
Leaving my corporate job wasn’t easy. I had years of growth and support. I’d been a manager, they paid for schooling and certificates. It was where I learned to be a coach and spent countless hours coaching others. But the pivot and adventure were calling.
While on our journey, I explored leadership coaching as a full-time career. Now I get the opportunity to work with leaders from around the world and all backgrounds to elevate their leadership skills. Often I find managers are given some management training but not leadership. They are taught how to do the tactical pieces of the job, sign off time, write development goals, avoid legal or union issues, but not the strategic, leadership part of the job. Leadership coaching allows me to upgrade leaders’ skills in order to create happy teams, increased morale, engagement, accountability, and overall growth of future leaders. I want my clients to love what they do, and feel like they are making a difference and an impact.
Personally, I’m a maximizer! I’m always looking for the strengths in others and want to help them leverage those skills to become better. Today my family and I are living in Houston, TX. When I’m not coaching my husband and I share homeschooling duties for Grace as she enters 1st grade. Together we enjoy family bike rides, painting and hiding rocks, cooking, and family game nights!
