Matcha Mornings Episode 3: Moon Cycles & Menstrual Cycles with Chelsey Breta

You are here: Home / Matcha Mornings / Matcha Mornings Episode 3: Moon Cycles & Menstrual Cycles with Chelsey Breta

March 3, 2020 //  by Amanda Kingsmith

This week on Matcha Mornings I am joined by my dear friend, Chelsey Breta. Chelsey is a 500-hour Registered Yoga Teacher and the founder of Moon Rise Yoga.

Chelsey and I met at our 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training in Bali back in 2015 and bonded over our love of cycle syncing, health and wellness, and of course, yoga. Over the years, we have had countless conversations talking about moon cycles and menstrual cycles, so it was really fun to have Chelsey on the podcast to talk about just that.

On this episode, we talk about Chelsey’s health and wellness journey, how losing her cycle inspired her to get in touch with her body and encouraged her to start paying attention to her monthly cycle. We talk about the moon in the sky and how that is linked with our monthly menstrual cycle, tips for getting in touch with and syncing your moon cycle and more.

Discussed in this Episode:

  • How Chelsey Breta began her health and wellness journey
  • How losing her cycle inspired her to get in touch with nature, rituals, ceremony, and the cycles of the moon
  • Why Chelsey Breta decided to come off hormonal birth control and start to follow our body’s natural rhythm
  • There is the moon cycle in the sky and the monthly moon cycle that we experience each month in our bodies
  • New Moon = intention setting, rituals, ceremonies
  • First Quarter Moon = intention is growing! It grows from a seed to a bud
  • Full Moon = we have the most energy!
  • Last Quarter Moon = our intentions are coming to fruition
  • Balsamic Phase = dark days before the new moon where we get to get rid of anything that doesn’t serve us
  • There are 13 moons each year so we have 13 opportunities to set intentions/goals every year!
  • There are 4 main stages in the menstrual moon cycle: Menstrual, Follicular, Ovulation, Luteal
  • Menstrual = Inner winter – our time to relax and go inwards
  • Follicular = Inner spring – more energy and sharing our energy with the world!
  • Ovulation = Inner summer – this is our most energetic and social time!
  • If there is no conception that happens, we head to Follicular = Inner fall – we start to release hormones and prepare to bleed!
  • As a woman, you can be synced with the moon in the sky and bleed with the new moon or the full moon
  • If your cycle isn’t in sync with the phases of the moon, you are in a time of transition! You can start to connect more with the moon in the sky by walking outside and looking at the moon, or journaling about what’s happening both in your body and in the sky.
  • Start tuning in to what is happening in your body – use the times that you are most creative to do this! Journal, move, meditate – whatever you need to do to tune into your body.
  • As much as you can with your work schedule, try and schedule meetings, social events and networking around the times that you will be more energetic and have more outward energy
  • Try and plan ahead before menstruation so that you can give yourself some time off and time to relax during that time
  • You can connect to the moon using Tarot cards
  • You can connect to yourself by giving yourself a lymph massage and use a heating pad on your ovaries during menstruation
  • You can start to eat for your cycle, pay attention to what your body is telling you, and start to eliminate painful PMS symptoms! Menstruation doesn’t need to be painful.
  • And much more… Here’s the Episode!

I am excited to be partnered with Muse! Muse is a wearable device in the form of a headband that senses the electrical rhythms of the brain (EEG). The headband is coupled with a smartphone app that monitors the user’s brain electrical activity and gives immediate feedback so that a “calm” or meditative pattern can be achieved.
